Motherhood, a Gift That Keeps Giving

Motherhood, a Gift That Keeps Giving

“This is a very special gift that you can never see. The reason it’s so special is it comes to you from me. Whenever you’re lonely or even feeling blue, you only have to hold this gift and know I think of you. You never can unwrap it, please keep the ribbon tied, just hold the box up to your heart, its filled with LOVE inside.”

Becoming a mother was the best thing that ever happened to me. All my life I wanted a daughter. In high school I even decided that when I had a baby I would name her Victoria Lauren. God gave me this precious gift much later in life and I am grateful for her every day.

The joy of motherhood for me is watching her grow. It’s an endless lesson in–what is that adage?–taking the proper action at the proper time to the proper extent. I am in awe of her every day. From her first squeak to the moment she looked me in the eyes and we saw each other…from her first frolic on the beach making sand angles to the transformation of “lello” to “yellow”… from her little love notes saying, “Mommy i mistd u” to the 57 selfies of a picture up her nose on my cell phone … from her sumersault going up the stairs to her fascination with practical jokes … from her daily hairstyle of placing a very specific strand of hair right in the middle of her face to her distinct fashionista personality … she is my heart and soul.

Similarly, I am eternally grateful for my mom. She taught me that I can have joy in the face of any circumstance. She created this for our family. As I watch her age, not so gracefully (she would tell you the same), I see her find herself and discover more and more layers. It’s a wonder how life unfolds.
